What is Stainless Steel Casting
Lost wax Investment casting is the most precise casting method to manufacture stainless steel casting. Especially those irregular or complex structures products. So stainless steel investment casting is almost equal to stainless steel precision casting.
The stainless steel casting process contains several steps as below: mold making, wax model making, tree assembly, dipping and dewaxing, pouring, etc.
Advantage of Stainless Steel Casting
Stainless steel is one of the most common investment casting materials for two reasons. Stainless steel is very friendly to the investment casting process. Stainless steel fills out the sand tree’s extremely well leaving great detail and minimal voids. Another reason stainless steel is so popular is due to the high expense of the stainless steel raw material. Because investment casting allows the customer to have very little waste of raw material it reduces overall costs compared to machining by eliminating scrap. Machining a similar part can produce significant waste depending on the part, greatly increasing overall cost. Stainless steel investment castings can produce near net shapes with very little secondary operations required.
Application of Stainless Steel Casting
For metal castings requiring corrosion resistance and high strength, especially those in severe environments. stainless steel casting is an ideal choice. Below are the main applications of stainless steel casting:
Mining, Agriculture, Energy, Military, Machine Tool, Valve bodies, Pumps, Housings, Gears, Bushings, Handles, Marine equipment, Medical devices.
Stainless Steel Casting Material Grade
304 |
The most widely used austenite steel, may be referred to as A2 stainless. |
304L |
This grade has slightly lower mechanical properties than the standard 304 grade, but is still widely used in casting for its versatility |
316 |
The second most common austenite steel, also referred to as A4 stainless. SS316 is used primarily for its increased resistance to corrosion. |
316L |
Lower carbon content than 316 stainless steel, which reduces the sensitization effect caused by the high temperatures involved in welding. Besides, it shows better resistance to stress-corrosion cracking. |
17-4 PH |
Most common precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel, which uses about 17% chromium and 4% nickel. |
2205 Duplex |
Used for its good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance properties. |
Production Process of Stainless Steel Casting
Silica Sol Casting:
For those who have high demands on stainless steel casting, this method is a perfect fit for them. Silica sol casting, also known as lost wax casting, is the most used method for the stainless steel process.
Water Glass Casting
With CT7-CT8 tolerance and low production cost, this method is the best for customers looking for a budget-friendly casting.
The unique feature of water glass casting is its low cost. More than 75% of casting manufacturers and stainless steel casting foundries use this process.
Stainless steel valve handles are used in various industrial applications to control the flow of fluids or gases by turning a valve stem. They are designed to be easy to operate and provide a reliable grip, and should be able to withstand harsh environments and extreme temperature changes.
